An amount of Rs 84.5 lakh in cash was confiscated as unaccounted money in Punjab as per the guidelines of the Election Commision ahead of assembly elections in the state.
A spokesman for the office of the Punjab Chief Electoral Officer today said a sum of Rs 40 lakh was confiscated from various places in Patiala district. Also, currency notes worth Rs 40 lakh were seized in Jagraon while Rs 4.5 lakh were recovered from Bathinda. Besides, 35 cases of liquor were confiscated from Faridkot. The spokesman said the Commission had declared 30 of the 117 assembly seats in Punjab as 'sensitive' constituencies.
