PSTET will be conducted on 9th June, 2013

The most awaited Punjab Teacher Eligibility Test (PSTET) 2013 has been rescheduled by the Government of Punjab due to IAS Preliminary Examination dates closing with it. Now the Punjab Teacher Eligibility Test (PSTET) 2013 will be conducted on 9th June, 2013 by SCERT Punjab and Punjab Education Department. 

Earlier the Punjab Teacher Eligibility Test (PSTET) 2013 was scheduled to 26th May, 2013. The other side, Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test will be conducted on 1 & 2 June, 2013

As per the source  the online registration process would start on April 17, 2013 and the last date of receipt of online application would be May 13, 2013, whereas department would upload the admit cards information on May 27, 2013.

Government schools lack funds for water & toilets

There are no separate funds earmarked for maintaining toilets in government schools, especially those for girls; only 50% schools have RO water  

While the Supreme Court has directed the Centre and all the state governments to ensure the availability of drinking water and toilets in government schools, especially in the schools for girls, the Punjab government has no separate funds earmarked for the cleaning and maintenance of toilets.

A visit to various government schools revealed that while all the schools have drinking water available, only 50 per cent schools in the district have facilities for RO water.

Sikh family at heart of Rowling’s Pagford

Celebrated author JK Rowling, whose latest book has a Sikh family at the heart of a fictional village in south-west England called Pagford, says she did a "vast amount of research" on Sikhism and it showed in the book titled “The Casual Vacancy.”

Answering queries from journalists and others at a book-reading event at the Southbank Centre here last night, Rowling, 47, said that when she was in her mid-twenties she knew a Sikh woman who sparked her interest in the Sikh religion. It remained with her all along, so the only non-white family in the book "had to be Sikhs", she said.

Rowling said she was particularly struck by the egalitarian principles of the religion and wove in a Sikh family as one of the central features of the book.

RTI PROBE: RECRUITMENT OF 7,654 TEACHERS UNDER SCANNER

The recruitment of 7,654 teachers by the state government has come under scrutiny after the education department claims to have no clear information about the experience of any selected candidate.
The departments has failed to submit details sought under the Right To Information (RTI) Act on the ground that it has no clear record of the teachers’ experience that was counted for hiring them all. After much dilly-dallying on releasing the information, the state council of education research and training (SCERT) director had asked the RTI applicant to look for details on the website.

Very few students from the city had managed to crack the IIT-JEE-Bathinda

The results of the All India Engineering Entrance Exam, announced late on Saturday night, brought the smiles back on the faces of many students in Bathinda, who hadn’t done too well in the IIT-JEE exam.

With an all India rank (AIR) of 332, DAV School student Shivali managed to secure the ninth rank in the entire state. Shivali had secured rank 973 in the IIT-JEE. Shivali aspires to take up chemical engineering at IIT Delhi.

Pushapjeet Sodhi, a Saint Fateh Singh School Maur student, grabbed the 29th state rank with an AIR 1019. Army Public School student Prashant Kumar Singh secured rank 128 rank in the state with an AIR 5149.

FREE TRANSPORT FACILITY FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN IN PUNJAB

The Punjab Government is contemplating to provide free transport facility to the school children residing in small settlements to ensure their proper and regular education.

Announcing this here today, Punjab Education Minister Sikander Singh Maluka said keeping in view the hardships being faced by the small school students residing in remote areas (Dhanis and Brick kilns), this decision had been taken so that the children could get regular education in nearby schools. He said free transport facility would also be provided to girls students living in remote villages.

Govt announces scheme for girlchild

To uplift the social status of girls, improve the declining gender ratio and tackle the school dropout rate among girls, a special programme has been chalked out for them.

Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Madan Mohan Mittal said today that a girlchild born on or after April 1, 2011, to couples following the two-child norm and whose income was les than 30,000 per annum would be covered under the scheme. The department would invest Rs 20,000 in LIC in the name of the beneficiary. 

On birth, a girlchild would get Rs 1,100, on attaining the age of 1 and 2 years (after immunisation), the child would get Rs 1,200, in the third year she would be entitled for Rs 1,500 and on admission to Class I, the department would deposit Rs 1,100 in her bank account.

1,105 teachers promoted and Panchayat accounts to go online

The state government has promoted 1,105 teachers as lecturers with immediate effect. A decision to this effect was taken by Education Minister Sikandar Singh Maluka at a meeting of the Education Department.

The Education Minister said it was a long pending demand of the master cadre and with this move, the government would be able to fill vacancies of lecturers in schools across the state. 

Summer vacation from June 1

Summer vacations in the schools would be from June 1 till June 30, he said. It had also been decided to give a minimum 36 periods to a school lecturer, he added.


Panchayat accounts to go online

Punjab Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Surjit Singh Rakhra today said all panchayat accounts would be made online to bring about transparency and accountability in the department.

Kulwant Singh made it to civil services, defying all odds

Thirtyfive-year-old Kulwant Singh from Dhuri, who has made it to the civil services in his sixth and final attempt, is the only candidate to have been successful after giving his examination in Punjabi.

Punjab is going to Provide Free Text Books to SC/ST Students

75 Rajouri students suspended for ‘protesting’ against marriage in school

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Kotranka, has suspended 75 Class XII students for allegedly protesting against an unscheduled holiday to allow use of school premises for hosting a marriage party a few days ago.

The school authorities used police force to dislodge students who had assembled on the premises to oppose the decision and were raising slogans against the authorities.

Aman, a protesting student, said, “School Principal Dinesh Kumar took help of the police to throw us out. The authorities did not spare even girl students. They were also treated badly and some of them were thrown out of the hostel.”

A relic from the Harappan civilization, coins from the medieval period, and lots more is what you can get to see when you visit the museum at the Central University of Punjab (CUP) in Bathinda.

The university came up with the idea of setting up the museum a couple of months back and noted historian, Subhash Parihar, who holds a PhD in Mughal architecture in Punjab (1526-1707), became the curator for the same.

1.30 lakh apply for 537 posts of jail warder

How grim is unemployment scenario in Punjab can be gauged from the fact that nearly 1.30 lakh applications have been received from across the state for a mere 537 posts of jail warder.

A jail warder is an official equivalent to the rank of a constable in the police. But, call it craze for government job or their need, 242 times more applicants have applied for these posts. During the physical tests being held at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium in Muktsar, it was found that 4,700 applicants had applied for the posts in Muktsar district alone. The recruitment drive started on April 23 and would conclude on April 28; thereafter, the interviews would be conducted.

An official of the Prison Department said recruitment for the posts of warder was being done after almost two decades, which was last time held in 1992.

Two-day Sarab Bharti Punjabi meet from today

A two-day Sarab Bharti Punjabi Conference, dedicated to the golden jubilee year of Punjabi University, will get underway here tomorrow. Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will be the chief guest, whereas delegates from various parts of the country will also attend the conference.

University Vice Chancellor Dr Jaspal Singh said with an aim to instill linguistic and cultural awareness among Punjabis living in states other than Punjab, the conference was started in 2008.

Joint Entrance Test will be held on May 19, 2012 PUNJAB

Punjab State Board of Technical Education and Industrial Training (PSBTEIT), Chandigarh invites application for admission to various Diploma courses in affiliated college in chandigarh and punjab through Joint Entrance Test (JET 2012), which is scheduled to be held on May 19, 2012.

Eligibility:
The Candidates should have passed the matriculation or equivalent Examination on Mathematics, Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) and English.

Selection Procedure:
The candidates will be selected based on the merit of the JET.

PPSC results

The Punjab Public Service Commission has declared results of the mains examination of the State Civil Services Combined Competitive Examination-2009.



As many as 514 candidates have been shortlisted for interview. The merit list of successful candidates has been put on the commission's website. Significantly, the PPSC has initiated the recruitment process for the civil services after 11 years.

ENGG TEST IS ON APRIL 29 -Officials, students scramble for rooms in hotels

The district is set to witness two major events this weekend. While on April 28, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will inaugurate Guru Gobind Singh Refinery near Ramsara, on April 29, the district will play host to candidates across the state for the All-India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE). Bathinda is the only offline centre for the exam in Punjab while Chandigarh is the only online centre.

With these two major events scheduled one after the other, city hotels are seeing a surge in bookings for rooms. Already more than 150 hotel rooms across the city have been booked for guests attending the refinery inauguration.
