2 rape cases in 24 hours shock Amritsar residents


Two rape cases in the past 24 hours have shocked the residents of Amritsar. Kiran Kapoor, a resident of Wand Wala bazar, in her complaint to the police, said that her daughter (14), who had gone missing from their house yesterday., returned late in the evening. She told her that she was raped by Gaurav, a neighbour, and his friend.

A case under Sections 362, 376 and 34 of the IPC was registered against the two.

Parvesh Chopra, Station House Officer, said the girl would be medically examined tomorrow. He said raids were being conducted to nab the culprits who had fled.

MBA Student Seshadri’s murder not a hate crime: Boston Police


The Boston Police investigating the murder of Indian student K Seshadri Rao at Allston neighbourhood of Boston University on Sunday said it had good leads in the case.
Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis said, “We have developed some good leads in the case. It is too early to say that it was a hate crime and till now there is no proof that the Indian student K Seshadri Rao was dragged from his hostel and killed. The motive of the murder is still under investigation.”
24-year-old K Seshadri Rao, who hailed from Odisha, was reportedly shot in the leg and head on April 19.

Bathinda jail bursting at its seams

Housing 1791 inmates against capacity of 1146; 780 detenus relate to cases belonging to Mansa district



The delay in completion of the Mansa district jail is adding to the problems of an overcrowded Bathinda Central Jail. Presently, the Bathinda jail has 1,791 inmates as against its capacity of housing 1,146 inmates. Of the total inmates, 780 relate to cases lodged at Mansa district. The Bathinda jail was designed to house 1,014 men and 132 women.

However, 1,683 men and 108 women are languishing in it at present.

According to the report of the Superintendent, Bathinda Jail, submitted to the Punjab Government, till October 19, there are 401 convicts and 610 undertrials from Bathinda district. Besides, there are 355 convicts and 425 undertrials from Mansa district.

The Mansa jail, a modern jail, has been built with a capacity of housing 450 inmates. Presently, the work on housing 433 inmates has been completed while other barracks are under construction.
"Against the built capacity of 450, at least 700 to 800 inmates could be transferred to the Mansa jail bringing much needed relief to the overpopulated Bathinda jail," said one of the officials at Bathinda jail.

It is learnt that District and Sessions Judge SK Aggarwal has taken up the matter with the Registrar General, Punjab and Haryana High Court, highlighting the urgent need to shift inmates from Bathinda to Mansa.

Man arrested for creating fake facebook profile of a woman


Cyber Crime Wing of Punjab State Crime Branch Mohali has arrested a person who created a fake profile of a woman on the facebook. The person has been identified as Kanwaljit Singh age about 25 years, a resident of District Jagroan. He is a software professional working in jagraon.  

The State Crime Branch had registered a case under sections U/S 66A, 66D IT ACT and section 419, 509 of the IPC on the complaint of one Kulbir Kaur (name changed) from Sultanpur Lodhi, Kapurthala.

Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, SSP of State Crime Branch said that the motive behind this crime was to defame the complainant lady because of some personal enmity of the complainant with some other lady close to the accused under arrest. The case was investigated by a team of officers headed by DSP Vibhor Kumar.

Punjab Crime Branch nabs Chandigarh resident for creating fake profile of a girl on Facebook


Cyber Crime Wing of Punjab State Crime Branch Mohali has arrested a Chandigarh resident who created a fake profile of a girl on the Facebook. The person has been identified as Nitin Arora age about 25 years, a resident of sector 44 Chandigarh. He is a software professional working in web marketing. 

The State Crime Branch had registered a case under sections under sections  66A, 66D IT ACT, 419/506 IPC on the complaint of one Sonia Sharma (name changed) who is a BDS student in a college at Mohali. In her complaint,  before the SSP Crime Branch she alleged that somebody has created a fake ID in her name on the Facebook and misusing the same to tarnish her image. The accused was also doing chats with the friends of the applicant in the college community using filthy language.

 Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, SSP of State Crime Branch informed that  the accused was interested in the girl who was earlier residing in the same locality but the girl did not give any response to him. Because of this enmity, the boy created a profile in the name of the girl and also uploaded her picture.
