I will never write an autobiography, says Amitabh Bachchan

As one of India's most high-profile celebrities, he has been the proverbial goldfish in the glass bowl for decades and is also an inveterate blogger. But no autobiographies for Amitabh Bachchan, who says firmly that some pockets of his life are off limits to the outside world and the blog is not a means to document his life. Amitabh, who turned 70 on Thursday, guards his privacy fiercely and says his blog is "just an interaction with people who are followers".

Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan (L) poses with wife Jaya Bachchan (2nd L) , son-in-law Nikhil Nanda (C), daughter Shweta Nanda (3rd R), son Abhishek Bachchan (2nd R) and daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan during a party on the eve of Amitabh Bachchan's 70th birthday.

Childhood pictures of Bollywood Stars

Amitabh Bachchan: Senior Bachchan looks amazingly cute as a junior. He looks dressed as a freedom fighter in the dated pic.

Ranbir Kapoor: Those inherent looks are simply unmissable when it comes to Ranbir Kapoor's young days. The Kapoor family 's genes still loom large on that face.

Aamir Khan: It might be ages that Aamir Khan was a kid, but the childlike quality in Aamir makes him come across as a young person. Also the fact that Aamir understands the psychology of kids so well adds to his charm.

Deepika Padukone: Deepika Padukone looks very bubbly as a kid. Today, however, it is a different story with all the dignified and ladylike ways about her.

Abhishek Bachchan: Much pampered and loved as a child, Abhishek is a proud daddy himself .

When Dev meets his Guide

“God Meets His Guide” – These were the words that greeted me on Facebook when I woke up today. The accompanying picture was that of Dev Anand with Suhel Seth. My first thought was – “Oh No, Suhel’s playing God now”, but within seconds I realised that this was no joke, we had lost a legend and Suhel, as always, had captured it perfectly.

My initial reaction was to text my condolences to Shekhar Kapur, his nephew and now the flag bearer of this great film making family, and then, I started reminiscing.

My relationship with Dev Sahab (I was born thirty three years after him) pre dates my involvement with films. In fact it probably pre dates my having seen any film. My father, who was a civil servant, belonged to and was born in Gurdaspur District, as was Dev Sahab. In those days, in Mumbai, this was a good enough reason for people to become friends.

To us kids, he was a name to boast of in school and a means to attend that most hallowed of ceremonies, a film shooting. I probably saw him on the studio floor way before I saw him on screen. The film was “Tere Ghar Ke Saamne” and he was playing a comedy scene with Harindranath Chattopadhyaya. The year was 1962 or 1963, I was six years old, but I still remember the scene and the fact that everything in the scene, even the two houses were fake — flat cut outs.

Stars were far more accessible then and possibly a lot less busy, and I have several memories of music sessions with Madan Mohan and Dev Sahab at our house, and our family album is peppered with their pictures.

Bollywood film legend Dev Anand dies

Bollywood star Dev Anand, a charismatic and flamboyant Indian film fixture for more than a half-century, has died of a heart attack in London, his family said Sunday. He was 88.
Famed for his roles in dozens of movies, including Jewel Thief andGuide, the veteran actor, director and producer was working up to the last minute, with a new script in the works.
Anand lived and died on "his own terms," his nephew and renowned film director Shekhar Kapur said in a posting on Twitter. "He was working one minute. Sat down and smiled. And was gone the next. So much to learn."

1946 screen debut

Born on Sept. 26, 1923, as the son of a Punjab lawyer, Anand studied English literature and law, eventually moving in his early 20s to India's film capital of Mumbai, then called Bombay, where he pursued a love of acting.
Known for his good looks, melodious voice and success in romantic leads, Anand was considered a superstar within just a few years of his 1946 screen debut in the Hindi-language film Hum Ek Hain.

Socially relevant films

Anand was given several prizes during his career, including lifetime achievement awards by Filmfare in 1993 and Screen Videocon in 1996. His 2007 memoirs, titled Romancing With Life, underlined his belief in making films that were socially relevant.
Also known for social work, Anand dabbled in politics in the 1970s, launching a short-lived political party and leading other film stars in opposing then-prime minister Indira Gandhi's "Emergency" regime, which gave her the power to rule by decree.

Punjab, AP to SC: Ban on ‘Aarakshan’ lifted

Punjab and Andhra Pradesh today informed the Supreme Court that there was no longer any ban on the release of Bollywood film “Aarakshan” in the two states, while the court issued a notice to Uttar Pradesh on a petition filed by producer Prakash Jha seeking a stay on the restrictions against his Rs 65-crore production.

rguing before a Bench comprising Justices MK Sharma and AR Dave, senior counsel Harish Salve contended that the state governments could ban any film, citing law and order problem as a reason, only after the release.

This legal position had been clarified by the judiciary in the case relating to another Bollywood film “Jodha Akbar”, he said.

The Bench passed an order recording the statements of Punjab and AP that “they have withdrawn the orders of restrictions” and directing them to file their affidavits in this regard within three days.
