PUNJAB ASKS CENTRE TO EXEMPT EGS TEACHERS FROM TET

The Punjab government today asked the Centre to relax the condition of TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) for recruitment of the EGS teachers in the state as a one time measure.

The Education Guarantee Scheme (EGS) teachers in the state had recently called off their agitation following an assurance by the government that it would favourably consider their demands, including regular service. In a statement here, Education Minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan said Chief Minister Parkash SIngh Badal was fully symathetic to the problems of the EGS teachers and wanted to help them. ''But the Central government's laws came in the way of his doing so''.
