Complete bandh in Mansa, Barnala -Punjab

Mansa and Barnala districts today observed a complete bandh to protest against reports of cow slaughter in Joga village of Mansa. The bandh in Bathinda was partial. Four motorbikes that reportedly belonged to a trader selling milch cattle in Mansa were burnt this morning. A plan to set a petrol station on fire was thwarted by the police.

Protesters in Mansa noticed a tractor-trailer carrying cows. They set the cows free and burnt the motorbike of the tractor owner. The Fire Brigade that came to douse the flames faced a hostile crowd and had to retreat.

In the morning, a large number of Mansa residents came out of their homes and gathered at Barahatta Chowk where they demanded stringent action against those involved in the “killing” of cows.

Some residents also gathered at the bus stand in Joga village. They demanded that the “factory where cows had been slaughtered” be turned into a shrine or a gaushala.
