NOW, SIKHS CAN WEAR KIRPAN IN TORONTO COURTS

In a landmark decision, Sikhs have been permitted to carry their kirpan, a ceremonial dagger mandated by their religion, into courthouses in Toronto.

As per the new policy, a Sikh wishing to enter a courthouse must tell court officers that he/she is wearing a kirpan and must possess the religion’s other four articles of faith too, which are kesh (uncut hair), kangha (small wooden comb), kada (circular steel or iron bracelet) and kachhera (undergarment). The kirpan must not be longer than 7.5 inches as a whole, with a blade of not more than four inches.
