29 BLACK BUCKS DIE AT BIR TALAB

 Forest officials say deaths occurred due to stampede caused by the entry of a stray dog in a cage
* Poor state of affairs as animals cremated without post-mortem; DFO conducting an inquiry

Twenty-nine blackbucks, the state animal of Punjab, were killed today in the Deer Park at Bir Talab near here when a stray dog entered an enclosure resulting in stampede among the animals. According to the wildlife officials, among the killed Blackbucks were 25 female and 4 male animals.

The stray dog, somehow, entered the enclosure before the crack of the dawn and started chasing the animals. There were 34 blackbucks in the enclosure that is spread in an area of about 250 square metres.
