SGPC CANDIDATES FOCUS ON ANAND KARAJ MARRIAGE ACT


The run up to the elections of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) is witnessing extensive campaigning by the candidates. Issues like the Anand Karaj Marriage Act and the controversy over voting rights for Sehajdhari Sikhs are some prominent poll planks for canvassing.

The SGPC elections are scheduled for September 18. There are more than 12,500 voters registered for the elections. Of these the maximum number of voters, around 5000, are present in Manimajra making it the centre of campaigns for candidates. President of the Chandigarh Akali Dal, Gurnam Singh has held a number of public meetings at Manimajra.
