Punjab Health Minister Dr Laxmi Kanta Chawla has requested the state government not to declare a holiday following her demise. She said such holidays are detrimental to the functioning of the government.
In a letter sent to Chief Secretary S C Agrawal on September 6 she said that declaration of a day’s or half-a-day’s holiday following the death of a person, who had remained a cabinet minister, is not a desirable practice and should be done away with. “Please make a note of wish... I cannot say anything about others (Cabinet colleagues),” Chawla wrote.
