In a landmark decision, Sikhs have been permitted to carry their kirpan, a ceremonial dagger mandated by their religion, into courthouses in Toronto.

As per the new policy, a Sikh wishing to enter a courthouse must tell court officers that he/she is wearing a kirpan and must possess the religion’s other four articles of faith too, which are kesh (uncut hair), kangha (small wooden comb), kada (circular steel or iron bracelet) and kachhera (undergarment).
