Badal to be Chief Minister, swearing-in on March 14


This will be Badal Sr’s 5th term in office

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) supremo Parkash Singh Badal is all set to be sworn in as Punjab CM for a historic fifth term on March 14 with the SAD-BJP alliance today unanimously electing him as its legislature party leader. The swearing-in would take place at the Banda Bahadur Memorial at Chhapar Chiri and several top BJP leaders are expected to attend.

After unanimously being elected leader of the SAD Legislature Party yesterday, Badal Senior was BJP-SAD legislators’ unanimous choice to be leader of the Vidhan Sabha today.

SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal told The Tribune, “Badal Sahib will remain Chief Minister for as long as he wishes. He is the party’s senior-most leader whose contribution to the state and the party is unparalleled.”

Punjab Elections 2012 update Result

CoCongress is contesting all 117 seats, while SAD 94 and BJP 23. In the last election SAD had won 50 seats, Congress 42, BJP 19 and independents 06


Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was leading from Lambi constituency by 2305 votes over his nearest rival and cousin Mahesh Inder Singh Badal of Congress. Badal's younger brother Gurdas Singh Badal was in third position.

Punjab BJP President Ashwani Sharma was leading by 1738 votes over his nearest rival Raman Bhalla of the Congress from the Pathankot assembly constituency

From Jaitu (SC) seat, Joginder Singh of Congress defeated Gurinder Singh of SAD by 6,342 votes.

Manpreet is also contesting from Gidderbaha, the constituency which he has represented on four occasions, but from there too he was trailing, according to the available trends.

From Maur Assembly segment in Faridkot, Punjab Minister Janmeja Singh Sekhon of SAD defeated Mangat Rai Bansal of Congress by a margin of 1,387 votes. PPP President Manpreet Singh Badal finished at number three.

SAD's Nand Lal beat Shiv Ram Singh of BSP by a margin of 14,857 votes from Balachaur assembly constituency, while Gulzar Singh Ranike of SAD beat Tarsem Singh of the Congress by a margin of 4,983 votes from Attari (SC) seat.

Congress' Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu bagged the Talwandi Sabo assembly seat, while O P Soni of Congress won from Amritsar Central, defeating his nearest rival Tarun Chugh of the BJP by a margin of 12,797 votes.

Sadhu Singh of Congress won from Nabha (SC) constituency defeating his nearest SAD rival by a margin of 22,548 votes

From Faridkot,SAD's Deep Malhotra beat Avtar Singh Brar of the Congress by a margin of 2,727 votes and SAD's Harpreet Kaur beat Madan Lal Jalalpur of Congress by a margin of 1,778 votes from Ghanaur

From Balachaur constituency, SAD's Nand Lal beat Shiv Ram Singh of BSP by a margin of 14,857 votes, while from Rajpura seat Hardial Singh Kamboj of Congress beat BJP's Raj Khurana by a margin of 31,510 votes.

Navjot Kaur, wife of BJP MP from Amritsar Navjot Singh Sidhu, has won from Amritsar (East) constituency, defeating her nearest rival and Independent candidate Simarpreet Kaur by a margin of 7,099 votes

Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh retained Patiala constituency by defeating SAD's Surjit Singh Kohli by a margin of 42,318 votes, while his son Raninder was trailing by 1630 votes from Samana Assembly constituency.

Pargat Singh (akali) won from Jalandhar cantt.

Sukhbir Singh Badal(Akali) won from Jalalabad with 50,000 votes

Punjab Police Beat Up Woman In Custody - Akali Dal


Once again the ugly face of Punjab police was revealed yesterday and at the receiving end was a 20-year-old girl.

In a shocking incident, a Punjab Police constable severely beat up the girl at the Bereta police station in Mansa, while his colleagues stood by.

The girl is a resident of Khudaal village and was accused of theft.

She along with another girl was in police custody for the past two days. Sources said Bereta SHO Sikander Singh had ordered to beat up the girl.

However, when the female staff refused to obey his order, he asked a policeman to do so.

As per the Punjab government directive, women cannot be summoned to police station alone and cannot be kept in custody.

Congress to list out faults of Akali-BJP govt


The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee will soon produce a chargesheet listing all the failures and alleged excesses and atrocities committed on Congress workers by the Akali-BJP government in the state during the last four-and-a-half years, according to PCC president Capt Amarinder Singh.
Amarinder said the party was currently preparing the chargesheet and it would be completed very soon. Without revealing details, he said it would list the government’s failures on economy, agriculture, law and order, unemployment and other issues concerning the state.
The PCC president was attending a party workers meeting at Moga today. Accompanied by vice-presidents Laal Singh, Rana Sodhi and general secretary Arvind Khanna, Amarinder met workers from four Assembly segments: Moga, Nihal Singh Wala, Dharamkote and Bhagha Purana. He had a day-long interaction where the workers listed their various problems particularly the excesses committed by the Akali-BJP government. They also gave various suggestions about strengthening the party in the state
