‘AMRITSAR, GURDASPUR MOST DEVELOPED BORDER DISTS’-GNDU

Jammu, Amritsar and Gurdaspur are the three most developed districts among the 19 districts (2011 Census) along the 3,323-km stretch of the IndoPakistan border falling in the states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab and J&K. The three most backward districts in this stretch are Barmer and Jaisalmer in Rajasthan and Bandipore in J&K.

These were the findings of a recent study conducted by Utpal Kumar, a junior research fellow with the department of geography at Panjab University, Chandigarh. He had presented his paper on the study at a seminar held last week at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) here to discuss the problems facing the border areas of India. The seminar was organised by the School of Social Sciences of GNDU.
