New approval conditions baffle ayurvedic colleges

Asked to submit evidence of surgeries done, newborns delivered


Ayurveda practitioners are normally not heard of delivering babies or performing surgeries. But for a while now, ayurvedic colleges seeking Health Ministry’s approval to admit students to their five-year BAMS courses are being asked to submit evidence of operations done and newborns delivered.

The norm, which many ayurvedic practitioners see as unreasonable, is set to be challenged in court by Dayanand Ayurveda College, Jalandhar, one of the oldest ayurveda institutes in India.
