29% students can’t read Punjabi: Survey


A large number of students clearing primary level in Fazilka district cannot read or write a sentence in Hindi, English or even Punjabi, their mother tongue, or perform basic arithmetic calculations, reveals the annual status of the Education Report, 2011-12.

The report, based on a survey conducted under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan for Education Development, assessed the learning outcome of students of classes I to V in eight blocks of the district.
