The skyline above Washington D.C is lit up by a myriad of fireworks as Independence Day celebrations in the US were rounded off in spectacular style.
With the Washington Monument as a backdrop, Americans gathered on the National Mall to celebrate their country's 235th birthday in time honoured fashion.
Celebrating the day the nation freed itself from British colonial rule, crowds packed Washington D.C to view the huge firework show which began after dark.
"Well I've come from New York and this really impresses me. I hope all Americans can appreciate what today represents," Charles Shellborne said from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.
The impressive fifteen minute extravaganza lit up the night sky in the capital as similar celebrations took place across the United States.
