Cricket is a popular game which is famous around the world. I have lots of Cricket World Cup 2011 images in my cell phone. People are very crazy for this game. World cup is a great event for all cricket lovers who wait for it madly. Indian team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni told in an interview that Sachin Tendulkar deserves a Bharat Ratna Award. According to him, no other player deserves this great honor. He is playing from twenty one years and he has all the qualities which one good player should have. Sachin is the only player who has made successful double century in one day international match. He is also the leading run scorer in test cricket. Sachin Tendulkar is the 1st player who has made 50 centuries in international cricket matches. He has also got Arjuna Award, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Padma Vibhushan and Padma Shri. I think it’s a good decision by Indian cricket team.
Sports Minister Ajay Maken said that his ministry would ask the Home Ministry to include sports in the criteria for Bharat Ratna, after calls for bestowing Sachin Tendulkar with the coveted award got louder following India’s World Cup triumph.
“Bharat Ratna is given only to those who have done eminent work in the field of art, literature, social service, science and technology but sports is not included in it.
“And now that we want India to do well in Olympics and other international events, the sportspersons must also be considered for this honour. And if any sportsperson gets Bharat Ratna it would be a matter of pride for all the Indians. We will take up this issue with the Home Ministry,” he said.
However, the government has already stated that bestowing ’Bharat Ratna’ to sportspersons would require tweaking of criteria that has been laid down for the country’s highest civilian honour.
The ‘Bharat Ratna’ was started in 1954 and has so far been given to 41 eminent personalities, none of whom are sportspersons, the reason being the criteria for the coveted honour.
Iconic batsman Sachin Tendulkar will be the first to receive 'Sai Ratna' award instituted by the famous Saibaba temple trust at Shirdi in Maharashtra.
"Members of the Sai Sansthan met today and it was unanimously decided to confer the Sai Ratna award on Sachin," chairman of Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust Jayant Sasane said.
